Show notes:
The life of David points towards Jesus as our king
God promises David:
- that he will build a house for David (house here means dynasty or family line)
- that his descendants would always rule over God’s people
- that one special descendant would build God’s house
This special descendant would:
- have a father-son relationship with God
- be punished when he sins but never have God’s love taken from him
- rule over God’s people forever
The concept of the Messiah – the promised ruler from God who would come and deliver Israel from their enemies.
Jesus is the Messiah and the King who rules forever – he fulfils the promises made to David
Through his resurrection, he has defeated our greatest enemies – sin, death and the evil one.
We have the hope of living in God’s kingdom forever, with all of our enemies gone completely – under the perfect, holy reign of our King Jesus.
